How brewing works

Every drink starts in a cauldron. Some stop there, and the rest go on to a still or a barrel.

  1. Step 1

    Cauldron
    Put a cauldron over a fire, fill it with water and drop in the ingredients. The minutes it cooks are the ferment. Take bottles out with glass bottles.

  2. Step 2

    Still
    Spirits go through a brewing stand with glowstone dust on top, a set number of times.

  3. Step 3

    Barrel
    Ales, wines, meads and some spirits rest in a barrel of the right wood. A Minecraft day is 20 minutes, and it keeps aging while you're away.

  4. Step 4

    Quality
    Every drink is best on one day and slips again after it, whether you pull it early or late. Get everything right and it comes out fine, with a better name.
Whose barrel is it?
A barrel inside a claim opens only for the claim's owner and its members. A barrel outside any claim is open to everyone, so keep the good ones at home. If the claim can't be checked for a moment, the barrel stays shut and asks you to try again.
Learning recipes
Everyone knows five drinks from the start. Brann Goodale at the Moonfall Tavern hands you a Brewer's Journal, and the quest givers teach the drinks of their trade, easy ones first. Recipe Cards turn up in chests and events too, and a few rare drinks nobody teaches at all: their cards are the only way in. You can also work a drink out by trying; learning it puts the exact recipe in your journal. In game, /brewing opens your journal.
