Commissions and builds

Two boards in Away put work in front of you. The town's board pays in standing and lasting rewards. The player board is a trade between two people. And the Builds panel keeps up with the builds you run or help.

The commission board

Townsfolk post what they need: bring in wheat, smelt iron, put saplings back in the ground. Your board holds two daily asks, two weekly asks, and one standing ask, and it turns over on its own. Dailies change every day, weeklies every Monday, and a standing ask waits until it is done.

Counting. A commission counts the work as you do it. Ore you mine, crops you harvest, fish you land, mobs you kill, and what you pull out of a furnace all count when they happen. What is already sitting in your chests does not count, and a block you placed yourself and broke again does not count either.

Rank. Finishing work raises your standing with that person. Total standing sets your board rank, from 1 to 5: rank 2 at 40 standing, 3 at 120, 4 at 260 and 5 at 500. The badge on the board says how much more standing the next rank needs, or "Top of the board" at rank 5. Higher ranks are offered heavier work and stop being asked for the small chores.

Who knows you. The people who post on the board get to know you through the standing their commissions pay. Your first finished job for someone makes you Met, and after that come Regular, Trusted and Friend. Each person's steps are sized to how much work they post, so someone who posts a lot asks for more standing than someone who posts a little. The Who knows you strip lists everyone who knows you and how far you are from your next step with each. When all of someone's work is below your board rank, their card says so instead of showing a bar that won't move, and they still remember you. A payout that moves someone up says so on its receipt, for example "Rhea March trusts you now." The people on the board count toward the three titles on the Quests page, and Friend of Aldoria needs at least 2 of them.

Pay. When the last count lands, the reward goes to your Delivery Crate and your standing goes up. Some asks also push a quest along. Standing asks are where the lasting rewards come from, like:

  • Titles. Shown on your public profile.

The What the board has given you strip on the commissions page lists everything you have earned for keeps.

Player requests

Post what you are short on and what you will give for it, in items, Coins, or both. Your offer leaves your chests the moment you post and is held for whoever fills it. Coins are held the same way.

Filling a request is all or nothing. The exact stacks asked for leave your chests at once, or nothing does. When it settles, the poster's Delivery Crate gets what they asked for, yours gets what they offered, and Coins land in your balance. Both of you get an inbox line.

Take a request down and your offer comes back to your crate. Let it run out and the same thing happens.

Builds

Builds are no longer a list of items on a board. A build is a blueprint put down in the world that raises itself, block by block, from what players drop in its chest. See Builds and blueprints for how to put one down and feed it.

In Away, the Builds panel follows the builds you run and the ones you have helped. It shows how far each has got and what it is waiting for, and it has the same buttons as the build's page: speed it up, keep it going with nobody nearby, and, for your own, start and pause.
