The Aldoria Exchange

The Aldoria Exchange

The Aldoria Exchange is the market at spawn. It buys and sells raw goods: ores, crops, logs, meat and fish, stone and earth, and mob drops. Its counter stands in the Moonfall Castle courtyard, and behind it stands Marlow Tallyworth, the Market Clerk.

Trading at the counter

Trades are made in person, with Marlow.

  1. Walk up to Marlow and right-click him. The first time, he walks you through how the market works. After that, a click opens the market straight away.
  2. While you stand at his counter, everything works: /market and its shelves, the /sell box, and /sell <item> <amount> or /buy <item> <amount> by name.
  3. Walk away and the market closes behind you. It closes too after 5 quiet minutes, if you change worlds, or if you log out. Talk to Marlow again to pick up where you left off.

Away from the counter, /market tells you where to find him. You can still check live prices from anywhere on the website: /market.

A little history

The Exchange started as a chalkboard by the castle gate, where miners and farmers wrote up what they had and what they wanted. When the board grew longer than the wall, the town hired Marlow to keep a ledger instead, and he has kept it ever since. Every trade goes into that ledger in his own hand, which is why trades are made at his counter, with him.

Marlow doesn't set the prices. The shelves do: the less the Exchange holds of something, the more it pays and the more it asks, so an empty shelf brings sellers running and a full one sends them elsewhere. Everything on the shelves was sold in by a player, and nothing restocks on its own.

Travel scrolls

Scrolls get you to the counter and home again. Each one holds 3 trips. The bar under the scroll shows how many are left, and so does its description.

ScrollTakes you
Exchange ScrollTo the Exchange counter, right in front of Marlow
Home ScrollTo your bed or respawn anchor
Return ScrollBack to where you read your last Exchange or Home Scroll, for up to 24 hours

Making one

Craft them at a crafting table. They're in your recipe book from the moment you join.

  • Exchange Scroll: an emerald on top; paper, an ender pearl, paper in the middle; paper at the bottom.
  • Home Scroll: a campfire on top; paper, an ender pearl, paper in the middle; paper at the bottom.
  • Return Scroll: a compass on top; paper, an ender pearl, paper in the middle; paper at the bottom.

A scroll can't stand in for paper in other recipes.

Reading one

Hold the scroll in your main hand and right-click. Then hold still for 3 seconds. If you're looking at a chest or a door, sneak while you right-click so you read the scroll instead of opening it.

A trip uses up one of the scroll's uses, and only when you actually arrive. If the reading stops, or the trip can't happen, the scroll keeps all its uses. After a trip, wait 30 seconds before reading the next one; the sweep over your scrolls in the hotbar shows the wait. Getting hurt starts a short wait too.

When a scroll won't work

  • Moving, getting hurt or putting the scroll away stops the reading. Try again standing still.
  • In a fight, or hurt in the last few seconds: wait until things calm down.
  • Riding something, sleeping, or not in survival.
  • Outside Aldoria, the overworld, the Nether and the End: scrolls don't work in the arcade or other worlds.
  • A claim you're not a member of: a Home or Return Scroll won't take you into someone else's claim.
  • Nowhere safe to land: if your bed is gone or blocked, or lava has been poured where you stood, you stay put.
  • Scrolls can't be mended, combined in an anvil or a grindstone, or used as paper in other recipes or trades.

Your Return Scroll's spot is yours alone. Nobody else can see it, and it's used up once you go back.
