Cooking and the workshop

You do not need a bakery or a craft quarter to cook or make things. Every kitchen and workshop station is an item you craft from ordinary materials, set down at home or on your claim, and use with the ingredients in your pack. The full lists, with pictures, are on the food page and the workshop page.

The stations

There are 18 stations. Each does one kind of job.

KitchenDoes
Prep BoardMills, kneads, rolls, chops and mixes
Drying RackDries, cures and hangs
Cooking PotSimmers, stews, boils and steeps
OvenBakes, roasts and glazes
Serving BenchPlates and assembles

The workshop has thirteen benches: Spinning Wheel, Weaver's Loom, Dye Vat, Tailor's Table, Potter's Wheel, Kiln, Joiner's Bench, Carver's Bench, Lathe, Basket Frame, Chandler's Pot, Glass Furnace and Saddler's Bench.

Make a station

A station costs materials only: bricks, iron, planks, wool, glass and the like. Nothing sells one for Coins. The shape of each recipe is on the item guide, and /itemguide <name> opens it in a book. A station item is refused in any other crafting grid.

Cook or make something

  1. Set the station down anywhere you may build. It becomes its own block: an oven is a smoker, a loom is a loom.
  2. Right-click it. A menu lists what that station makes and names anything you are missing.
  3. Pick a recipe and how many runs, up to 16.
  4. The station takes the ingredients and starts. You can walk away: the batch carries on through a logout or a restart. Each station works on one batch at a time, so a second station means a bigger kitchen.
  5. The finished dish turns slowly above the station and glows when it is ready. Right-click to collect. If your pack is full, the rest lands at your feet.

Right-click while it works to see the time left. Only the cook, the person who placed it and staff can collect. Break the station to get it back.

On a claim, the owner and trusted players can use a station and visitors cannot. See Claiming.

Real ingredients

Recipes use what you grow, catch and gather: crops, berries, herbs, flowers, honey and orchard fruit from Farming, and landed catches from Fishing. A big catch gives a little more at the bench. Milk from a cow bucket is the start of the dairy: skim cream, churn butter, set yogurt, curdle and age cheese, then bake it into scones, cheesecake, gratin and more. The station takes the milk and hands the empty bucket back, one bucket makes three of the first step, and a few steps need a tool from the workshop in your pack: a milk jug, milk pail, butter dish, cheesecloth or cheese press. Tools are never used up. Every bottled drink takes a glass bottle from your pack, one for each bottle it makes, and drinking one hands the bottle back. A finished dish never stands in for its plain ingredient, so a cup of tea is not honey.

Dishes are eaten like ordinary food, so hunger works the way it always has. Look any dish up with /itemguide: it shows each step, where the raw stock comes from and a shopping list.

Workshop goods

Workshop benches make things for the home and the town: cloth and garments, pottery and table ware, furniture, baskets, candles, glass, leather goods, toys and instruments. They are for display cases and shelves, the dinner table, orders and play. Goods are not eaten or placed as blocks.

Your recipe journal

/journal opens your journals; the recipe journal lists everything you have made at a station, what it took and what to carry. A page opens the first time you make something.

Who earns

Collecting your own finished batch pays the job the recipe belongs to. Chef and Florist are paid for it, and so are Farmer, Builder, Engineer and Lumberjack. The usual hourly limit and Minecraft Monday boost apply. See Jobs.

Good to know

  • Stations are not tiered. There is no faster or bigger version yet.
  • If a world edit changes a station's block while it holds a batch, the batch is lost.
  • Cooking sounds and sparkles follow /quiet.
