Fishing

There are 290 fish on Aurelune, across 12 rarities, and they are not all in water: some only bite in lava, and some in the void. Every catch counts toward the fish guide, the daily bounties, and whatever contest is running.

Everything lives under /angler in game. (/fishing works too; your Fishing skill is on /skills.) Every fish, where it bites and what it is worth is on the fishing page.

What fishing pays

Fish sell for money in /angler shop → Bait shop, which opens the fishing menu with its sell shop. Bounties, guide milestones and everything the tackle shop charges are money too.

Contests are the only fishing that pays Coins. Winning one in front of everybody should be worth something you cannot get by casting all evening.

Contests

One contest a week: Saturday at 2 pm Eastern, running 4 hours, whenever two or more players are online when it is due. You get half an hour's notice in game and on Discord, and it goes up as a Discord event you can hit Interested on days ahead. Each week is one of five kinds, taking turns:

ContestWho wins
Biggest fishThe single longest fish
Most valuable catchThe single most valuable catch. Treasure counts, junk never does
Most fishWhoever lands the most fish
Most kinds of fishWhoever lands the most different kinds
Longest haulEvery fish you land adds its length, and the longest total wins
  • Prizes are paid in Coins by place: 150 / 75 / 40. If two players tie for first, they both take first prize.
  • Feeding frenzy. Roughly once an hour the water goes into a frenzy, and fish bite in half the time for everyone.
  • Follow along. A new leader is announced in game and on Discord. /angler top shows the top five and your place. The contest's event page on the website shows the live board.

Daily bounties

Three bounties a day, the same for everybody, always fish that can actually bite:

BountyReward
Easy$40 in-game
Medium$100 in-game
Hard$250 in-game
All three$150 in-game on top

See today's with /angler bounties.

The fish guide

/angler guide shows every fish you have caught and the ones still to find, and so does the fishing page, with where each one bites and what it likes on the hook. Milestones pay out as the guide fills in, from 10 kinds all the way to 150. Finishing the whole guide pays $5,000 in-game. Your first lava fish, your first void fish, and your first catch of each of the two rarest rarities are milestones too.

New server records, first-ever catches and personal bests are announced, and the rarest catches go to Discord.

The tackle shop

Open it with /angler shop, or by talking to the fisher NPC. Upgrades are yours for good, and everything here is paid for in money, the same money your fish sell for. Each level costs more than the last.

UpgradeWhat it does
Quick BiteFish bite sooner, up to half the wait
Double HaulA chance your catch comes up doubled
Sturdy RodYour rod shrugs off some of its wear
Angler's WisdomMore experience from fishing
Treasure SenseA chance a catch brings up something extra
TidecallerFish bite sooner while it rains

Tonics last a few minutes. Drink one and its timer starts:

TonicCostWhat it does
Frenzy Tonic$150 in-gameFish bite 35% sooner for five minutes
Treasure Tonic$200 in-gameA far better chance of treasure for five minutes
Scholar's Tonic$100 in-gameTwice the experience from fishing for ten minutes
Haul Tonic$250 in-gameA better chance of a doubled catch for five minutes

Nothing in the shop changes a fish's size or value, so a contest is still won by fishing. Speed-ups pause during contests won on the number of fish.

Bonus catches

Now and then one cast brings up two things. Any cast, on any rod, has a 5% chance of a bonus: most often a second fish rolled like any other in that water, sometimes a bit of sea filler like kelp, clay, string or a pack of bait. A bonus fish is never one of the rarities that get announced, and it is an extra item, not a catch: it does not count toward contests, bounties, the fish guide or records, but it sells for what it is worth.

Double Catch (a fishing-rod enchant, see Custom enchants) gives the rod its own roll of 8%, 12% or 16% by level, so about 13%, 16% or 20% together with the 5%. A cast brings up one bonus at most, however the rolls land. Treasure Sense and Double Haul are separate and still do their own thing. If your pack is full the bonus lands at your feet, and a soft line on the action bar tells you something else was on the hook.

Being there

The fish stop biting for somebody who has not moved in five minutes. Walking, turning your head, chatting, typing a command. Any of it is enough, and they come straight back. A contest, a bounty or a guide anybody could win overnight at an AFK farm is not worth turning up for. Nothing else changes: fish on a quiet afternoon as slowly as you like, as long as you are there.
