Barn

Your barn keeps your animals safe until you want them again. Send a cow, a horse, a villager or your own dog in with a Barn Tag, then let the very same animal out later with /barn. It comes back just as it went in: its name, its colours, a horse's speed and jump, a villager's job and trades.

Get a Barn Tag

Craft one at a crafting table. The recipe is in /recipes, under Tools:

  • a gold nugget on top
  • paper, a plain name tag, paper in the middle
  • string, a lead, string at the bottom

It has to be a plain name tag: one you've already named won't do. Everyone can craft Barn Tags. A tag is used up the first time an animal goes into your barn, and never when the barn says no.

Send an animal to your barn

  1. Stand on your own claim. New animals can only go in from a claim you own.
  2. Right-click the animal with a Barn Tag, in either hand.
  3. Right-click it again within 5 seconds. It leaves in a puff, and it's in your barn.

A Barn Tag never names an animal, and it never tames one or makes it anyone's pet. Name your animals with an ordinary name tag, as always: the barn keeps the name.

Let an animal out

Type /barn. Every animal has its own tile with its name or kind, "Baby" if it is one, a horse's speed, jump and health, and a villager's job and level. The title shows how full your barn is. Click a tile and the animal appears beside you.

Animals can come out in the Overworld:

  • on your own claims
  • on a claim you're a member of (the claim's owner can send animals on their claim to their own barn, and you'll be reminded)
  • on open land that nobody has claimed

They can't come out at spawn, in the arcade, or in the Nether, the End or the Deeper Dark. The spot has to be safe and roomy: no lava, fire, cactus or big drop, and room for the animal to stand. Water animals need water.

Take it back in, free

An animal that has been in your barn is yours. Right-click it with a Barn Tag (the tag isn't used up), or press Bring nearby in in /barn to call back your barn animals within 16 blocks.

That works on your own claims and on open land in the Overworld, and in the Nether, the End and the Deeper Dark, so you can fetch an animal that wandered through a portal. It doesn't work inside a claim someone else owns, even one you're a member of: there, the claim's owner decides. Walk the animal off their land first.

How many

Everyone has 10 stalls to start, one animal to a stall. Each Premium Rank step adds 2 more: Knight 12, Lord 14, Paladin 16, Duke 18 and King 20. A villager takes one stall like any other animal. Only animals in your barn take a stall; the ones you've let out don't.

To keep things smooth, you can move up to 20 animals a minute, one per click, and no animal comes out where 40 or more animals are already within 16 blocks.

What can go in

  • Farm animals: pigs, sheep, cows, chickens, mooshrooms, goats and rabbits
  • Mounts: horses, donkeys, mules, llamas, camels, striders and happy ghasts
  • Pets: wolves, cats, parrots, allays, foxes and ocelots
  • Others: armadillos, bees, pandas, sniffers and villagers
  • Water animals: squid, glow squid, frogs, turtles, dolphins and nautiluses
  • Golems: iron, snow and copper golems

Your own tamed pets can go in, and they come back tamed to you with their name.

What can't go in:

  • fish, axolotls and tadpoles (they travel in a bucket)
  • bats
  • wandering traders and their llamas
  • undead mounts: skeleton horses, zombie horses, camel husks and zombie nautiluses
  • stable horses, which live at the stables
  • someone else's pet, or an animal someone else is holding on a lead
  • cosmetic pets, and anything else a plugin made
  • an animal with a legend of its own

Before it goes in

  • Empty a donkey's, mule's or llama's chest. The chest itself stays on.
  • Plain gear stays on: a saddle, horse armour, a carpet or a harness. Anything named, enchanted or special has to come off first.
  • An allay has to be empty-handed.
  • Its lead comes back to your inventory, so keep a slot free.
  • Not while it's hurt (give it a few seconds), not while someone's riding it, and not while you're in a fight.

Good to know

  • Time stops in the barn. Babies don't grow and nothing heals until they're out again.
  • If an animal from your barn dies out in the world, it's gone, as any animal would be. No tag comes back.
  • If someone else tames an animal that came out of your barn, it's theirs now.
  • The barn never gives spawn eggs.
  • On a claim you own, you can send any animal the barn allows into your own barn, even one that came out of someone else's. So let your animals out on land you trust.

Old claim tags

The Barn Tag replaces the Exchange Claim Tag. Any old claim tag you still carry turns into a Barn Tag, one for one, the next time you log in or open a chest that holds it. /wallet points you here for a while, then it goes. Your Coins and Money were never in it: they're in /balance.
