Tools & Gear
Three pieces of crafted gear for travellers and builders. Their recipes are in /recipes, under Tools.
Netherite Elytra
An elytra with netherite worked into it. It flies exactly like your old one, it protects you while you wear it, and its dark wings show on your back.
Make one at a smithing table, the same way diamond gear becomes netherite:
- a netherite upgrade template
- your elytra
- a netherite ingot
Your own elytra goes in and comes out upgraded. It keeps its name, its enchantments and its wear. A named elytra (a Legend) keeps its story too.
While you wear it:
| Netherite Elytra | Diamond chestplate | |
|---|---|---|
| Armour | 6 armour | 8 |
| Armour toughness | 2 armour toughness | 2 |
| Knockback resistance | 0.1, the same as one netherite piece | none |
| Uses before it breaks | 592 uses (a plain elytra has 432) | 528 |
The protection only counts while it's on your back. Take it off, swap it, or die with it, and the armour goes with it. It's still a little weaker than a real chestplate, so you'll choose between flying and full protection. It only wears from flying, like a plain elytra: hits never wear it down.
Fire: like all netherite gear, a dropped Netherite Elytra floats on lava and won't burn.
Mending it: use phantom membrane in an anvil, the same as a plain elytra.
Enchanting it: put enchanted books on it at an anvil. It takes Unbreaking, Mending and the two curses like a plain elytra, and the chestplate ones too: Protection, Fire Protection, Blast Protection or Projectile Protection (one of the four, as on any armour), Thorns, and Aurelune's Lucky Orb. The enchanting table has nothing to offer it, so use books.
Trowel
For building big walls and floors that don't look flat. Right-click a block and the Trowel places a random block from your hotbar beside it. Fill your hotbar with a few kinds of stone and paint a wall in one go.
Make one at a crafting table: three iron ingots and two sticks.
- top row: empty, iron ingot, iron ingot
- middle row: empty, stick, iron ingot
- bottom row: stick, empty, empty
Using it:
- Hold it in your main hand and right-click where you want a block. One block from that row is used up for each block placed.
- Sneak and right-click the air to change which row it takes from: your hotbar, then the top, middle and bottom rows of your inventory. The row shows above your hotbar when you change it and when you switch to the Trowel.
- It places plain building blocks: stone, planks, wool, glass, logs, slabs, stairs and leaves. Logs turn to the side you clicked, and slabs and stairs go high or low by where you clicked, as by hand.
- It skips anything special: chests and other blocks that hold things, doors, beds, fences, torches, and any item with a name or lore of its own.
- It only builds where you could build by hand. On someone else's claim, or in a protected area, nothing is placed and nothing is used up.
The Trowel has 250 uses and mends with an iron ingot in an anvil.
File
For the fiddly last touches. Right-click a fence, wall, glass pane, iron bars or stairs to change its shape.
Make one at a crafting table: two iron ingots and a stick.
- top row: empty, empty, iron ingot
- middle row: empty, iron ingot, empty
- bottom row: stick, empty, empty
What it changes:
- Fences, panes and bars: click a side to join it or break it off.
- Walls: click a side to change it from none to low to tall. Click the middle of the top to add or remove the post.
- Stairs: each click turns them to the next shape: straight, inner corners, outer corners, then straight again.
A waterlogged block stays waterlogged. If you place or break a block right next to a shape you filed, the game may join it up again, so file last.
The File works on your own claim, a claim you're trusted on, or open land, and only where you could build by hand. It has 250 uses, and mends with an iron ingot in an anvil.
Good to know
- All three work only from your main hand.
- You can't put them in Aurelune Away storage or use them in Away crafting.
- Tools aren't sticks: you can't burn them or craft with them.
