Instruments

Six instruments can be crafted in Aldoria: the hand drum, wooden flute, lap harp, lute, fiddle and panpipes. Hold one and right-click to play a note. Everyone nearby hears it, so a tune on the tavern steps is a tune for the whole street.

Free play

  • Right-click plays a note.
  • Sneak and right-click moves to the next of five notes.

The five notes sit on a gentle scale, so any order sounds friendly on a flute, harp, lute, fiddle or panpipes. The hand drum has five different drum voices instead: kick, snare, hi-hat, tom and crash. Your action bar shows the notes as shapes, 1▲ 2● 3■ 4◆ 5★, so you can follow along without sound.

Notes can be heard from about 16 blocks away. A player with /quiet on hears nothing, and sounds need the Aurelune resource pack.

Practice stands

A practice stand is a lectern inside a marked practice area. Stand at it and type /practice to start the next lesson, or /practice <lesson> to pick one.

Each lesson is taught by echo:

  1. A count-in of three beats.
  2. You listen as the lesson plays.
  3. You play it back on your instrument.

If you miss a note, the lesson replays from that note. Timing is only advice, never failure. A song counts as learned when you get every note of a round right, and it is recorded once in your discoveries book under Songs. You get up to three rounds per lesson.

Commands

CommandWhat it does
/practiceStart the next lesson at a stand
/practice <lesson>Start a named lesson
/practice slowStretch every gap by half again
/practice normalBack to the usual pace
/practice stopEnd the lesson

There is no score, no streak and no penalty.

What is not here yet

Songs for two players together, and ensembles, are not built. The practice areas need a builder to mark them out, so until they are placed there is no stand to find at spawn. Staff can practise anywhere.
