Brewing

Brewing is a craft you can learn at the Moonfall Tavern. Brann Goodale hands you a Brewer's Journal, and five drinks everyone knows from the start: Moonfall Pale Ale, Ashville Apple Cider, Moonfall Mead, Moonfall Cocoa and Hedgerow Tea. There are 119 drinks in Aldoria. Every one, what goes in it and what it tastes like is on the brewing page.

How a drink is made

1. Kettle. Fill a cauldron with water, light a fire under it and use ingredients on it. The minutes it simmers matter, and a clock on the action bar tells you how long. A glass bottle draws a brew. Cocoa, teas and tonics are finished here. The rest come out as a base, like Wort or Apple must.
2. Still. Spirits run through a brewing stand with glowstone dust on top, a set number of times.
3. Barrel. Ales, wines, meads and aged spirits rest in a barrel, on the wood each one wants. One Minecraft day is twenty real minutes, and the clock keeps going while you are logged out.

Get the ingredients, the minutes, the runs, the wood and the days right and the drink comes out fine: a better name, gold stars and a stronger effect. Nearly right is ordinary. Wrong is poor, or a Murky Brew nobody can name.

Every drink has a peak. Past it, it slowly turns, and an old whisky left too long goes harsh again.

Learning more

The quest givers of each trade teach the drinks of theirs, easy ones first. Recipe Cards turn up at events, and a few rare drinks can only be learned from a card. You can also work a drink out by trying, and learning it writes the exact recipe in your journal. /brewing opens your journal in game.

Drinking

Drinks give a short effect scaled by their quality. Alcohol builds up: you feel warm, then tipsy (slower), then drunk (a little wobble), and it wears off on its own. Teas and other soft drinks steady you. Turn on /quiet and the wobble stays off. There is no hangover, no chat scrambling and no passing out. Around a quarter of the drinks have no alcohol at all.
