Stories
Some people in Aldoria have a story of their own: something they found, somebody they lost, a favour they'd only ask of someone they know. They don't tell it to everyone. Keep coming back to them, and one day they'll have something to tell you.
Who hears a story depends on the story. It might be how well the person knows you, your level, the quests you've finished, or the day you happen to visit. Two friends can stand at the same person and get different answers.
Finding one
- Over their head. The line under the person's name reads ✦ Has something to tell you. Only you see it. Everyone else still sees "Click to talk".
- In chat. The first time a story opens for you, you get one line saying who has something for you. Only one per story, ever.
- The Quest Master. The Quest Master's menu shows the same ✦ on that person's tile.
- Aurelune Away. The Quests page shows a "Waiting for you in Minecraft" card with the person and where to find them.
Stories start in person, so there's nothing to start or track from the website.
Talking to them
Click the person and their story starts instead of the usual menu. Press Sneak to turn each page. When they ask you something, click an answer in chat, or type /answer and its number.
Saying no is always fine:
- Another time: they leave it for 20 hours, then bring it up again. Say it twice and they set it aside.
- Not for me: they set it aside and stop bringing it up.
/storieslists it under Set aside, and clicking [Ask again] brings it back. - Walking away: nothing changes. Next time you click them, you pick up where you left off.
On any page that takes a story on or picks an ending, the first answer never commits you. It's always something like "Tell me more" or "Let me think about it", so a quick Sneak can't choose for you.
Parts
Taking a story on starts its first part. A part works like a quest: catch something, mine something, stand at a place in Aldoria, or go and speak with someone. Parts show in /stories and on Away, and they don't use any of your quest slots.
When a part is done, the next one either starts by itself or the person wants you to come back and tell them about it. Then their line reads ✦ Wants to hear from you. If a part sends you to someone else, their line says it too, for you only.
There are no timers. A story never runs out, you can't fail one, and it waits for you as long as you like. You can't cancel a story once you've taken it on.
The ending
Most stories end with a choice. Before you make it, the person tells you what each answer means. The first answer is always "Let me think about it", which closes the conversation; the next time you click them you're back at the same question.
The choice itself is final. The person remembers it and now and then brings it up when you visit. /stories shows the ending you chose, and so does Away. Nobody else can see it.
Rewards
| Reward | What you get |
|---|---|
| Money | Some parts pay a little money, never more than $500 a part |
| Level XP | 3 for every part. The Level XP booster doesn't double it |
| A keepsake | Some stories give you something to remember them by, and what it is depends on your choice. It can't be placed or used up. You can keep it, drop it or give it to a friend, but the auction house, the market and Away won't take it. If your bag is full, the person holds on to it until you visit with room |
| A title | Some stories give a title for finishing, whichever ending you chose. Wear it from /tags |
Stories never pay Coins, and nothing you can buy opens one: no rank, purchase or balance counts.
Commands
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/stories | Your stories: who has something to tell you, the parts you're on, the ones you've finished and the ones you set aside |
/stories ask <name> | Ask someone to bring their story up again next time you visit |
/stories notices off | Turn off the chat line when a story opens (on turns it back on). It's the same switch as /townsfolk hints |
Keep it to yourself
Part of the fun is hearing a story for the first time. Please don't post the endings.
